In an article for the professional journal WASSER UND ABFALL (Water and Waste) published by the Association of Engineers for Water Management, Waste Management and Land Improvement Engineering (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bwk-bund.de\/\">Bund der Ingenieure f\u00fcr Wasserwirtschaft, Abfallwirtschaft und Kulturbau<\/a>, BWK), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stoffstrom.org\/?lang=en\">Institute for Applied Material Flow Management<\/a>, IfaS (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umwelt-campus.de\/en\/\">Trier University of Applied Sciences<\/a>), in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hs-geisenheim.de\/\">Geisenheim University<\/a>, describes the connection between structurally complex forms of land use such as agroforestry and biodiversity conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The article insights are based on past and ongoing projects such as FNR <a href=\"https:\/\/agroforst-info.de\/modema\/\">MODEMA<\/a>, FNR <a href=\"https:\/\/agroflow.stoffstrom.org\/\">AGROfloW<\/a> and EU LIFE AFaktive, which also offer best practice examples for scaling agroforestry systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The authors consider agroforestry in the context of further developing land use by combining agriculture with other land function and services, such as watershed protection and biotope connectivity, which gives way to a \u2018living cultural landscape development\u2019 approach. Especially in light of climate change, agroforestry systems provide interesting ecosystem services for relatively modest financial outlays.
