Visit day in Belgium on the 22nd January

Project partners visit agroforestry project sites

On the 22nd of January, two of the AFaktive project partners – Instituut voor Landbouw, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek (ILVO) and Association pour la promotion de l’agroforesterie en Wallonie (AWAF) – together with some of their associated partners – Department of Geography of the Ghent University, Université libre de Bruxelles, and the Province of Flemish Brabant – and two Master of Science students visited three of the project sites. They explored the experienced pioneer farms with mature agroforestry and the new pilot sites on which the project partners will develop and implement new agroforestry and water management plans in the framework of the AFaktive LIFE project. Considering the focus of the project on water management, the visit day was specifically selected to allow the observation of water-related challenges. In fact, the day before the visit, a serious rainfall event took place, thereby enabling the researchers to identify which water-related challenges have to be tackled during the project. The visits were particularly successful because of the wide range of stakeholders brainstorming together on the project issues. This marks a great start for the project field works as well as for the cooperation with the regional stakeholders.
