On Thursday, 22 May 2025, the German television channel SWR aired a broadcast on agroforestry in their evening programme ‘Zur Sache Rheinland-Pfalz’ (link to broadcast).
The SWR took up the topic of agroforestry in and for Rhineland-Palatinate and examined the topic from various perspectives.
The Hofgut Neumühle educational and experimental centre for livestock farming was portrayed as an example. Three IfaS projects, ZENAPA (Zero Emission Nature Protection Areas), and the two sister projects AFaktive and AGROfloW are conducting research at this site.
Faced with the challenges of climate change, farmers are increasingly looking for solutions to reduce drought, flooding and erosion, which now often affect the same area. One possible approach to climate adaptation is agroforestry, as explained by Frank Wagener, head of department at IfaS.
With the above-mentioned projects, the project teams aim to contribute to the scientific knowledge about the effects of agroforestry on the water balance – linked to the actual practice of farming – and thereby to make this knowledge available for farmers.
