The next video of the series on agroforestry is now available on the LUCA_IfaS YouTube channel.
At the Lerchenhof in Jesewitz, farmer and beekeeper Robert Künne explains how agriculture and nature conservation work together on his farm.
His agroforestry system combines healthy food production with valuable, energy-producing, and fruit-bearing trees. These are intended not only to secure future yields, but also to create valuable habitats.
Some species provide shelter and food for insects, while others increase economic use.
For Künne, this is a project with a long history – he has been working on the idea for over 20 years and is now finally able to make it happen with the help of IfaS (Hochschule Trier).
The reasons for this are obvious: progressive species extinction and increasingly extreme weather conditions are putting pressure on soils and crops. Short, heavy rainfall overwhelms the soil’s water absorption capacity. With his agroforestry project, Künne wants to help maintain soil fertility, store water, and strengthen biodiversity.
